Today I made a French pastries called religieuses. They are a kind of choux pastry filled with crème, which are extremely popular in Japan. These particular pastries are decorated to look like “nuns”, which is where they get their name.

Today I learned how to make Japanese-style strawberry shortcake. In Japan, shortcake = strawberry shortcake. There is no other kind, and it’s my family’s favorite so that suits me just fine!
The cake itself is extremely easy to make. It’s the frosting styling that’s tricky as it’s made of fresh cream and can easily be ruined.
