“Power and Folly: Japanese Satire for the 21st Century”, UHM Kennedy Theatre Mainstage Production (Spring 2017)

Performed as a part of the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa’s Japanese kyōgen production, Power and Folly: Japanese Satire for the 21st Century, at the Mid-Pacific Institute. Performed in “The Two Great Lords”, the English translated version of the traditional kyōgen play Futari Daimyō as one of the daimyō feudal lord characters. Also participated in the local tour of the production, which staged performances and workshops across the Hawaiian islands of Oahu, Maui, and Kauai.

“Sway ~揺れる~”, Asian Theatre Directing Class (April 2016)

Directed an experimental piece based on Mishima Yukio’s The Lady Aoi and the Noh play Aoi no Ue by Zenchiku which featured elements from Noh, Bunraku, Kabuki and shadow puppetry.

Subali-Sugriwa: Battle of the Monkey Kings”, UHM Kennedy Theatre Mainstage Production (Spring 2016)

Performed as a part of the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa’s Balinese Wayang Listrik production, Subali-Sugriwa: Battle of the Monkey Kings, at the Kennedy Theatre.  Worked as a puppeteer, voicing the roles of Sangut and Laksmana.

“The Butterfly”, UHM Earle Ernst Theatre Production (Fall 2015)

Performed as a musician in Maseeh Ganjali’s thesis production of Bijan Mofid’s Persian play by the same name.

“Peony Pavilion”, Asian Theatre Directing Class (April 2015)

Performed a solo piece in Qiaoer Zheng’s experimental Asian theatre piece at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa’s Earle Ernst Theatre.

“Lāʻieikawai”, UHM Kennedy Theatre Mainstage Production (Spring 2015)

Performed as a part of the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa’s inaugural Hawaiian Theatre production, Lāʻieikawai at the Kennedy Theatre.  Worked primarily as a musician in the live musical ensemble, utilizing the entire range of Hawaiian instruments.

“Cloud Pictures”, Graduate Directing Workshop (February 2015)

Acted with Nicholas Murray Husted in Aubrey Watkin’s directed scene from the Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) playscript “Cloud Pictures” written by Mike Kenny.

“Interrupted Dream in the Garden”, Asian Theatre Directing Class (February 2015)

Performed in Qiaoer Zheng’s directed scene of traditional Chinese Kunqu Opera with Aubrey Grace Watkins and Margot Fitzsimmons.

“Night of the Mo’o”, Hawaiian Acting Workshop Final Scene Presentation (December 2014)

Performed as Wife and Mo’o with Nathaniel Niemi (as Vocals and Mo’o) and Soonsup Hong (as Husband) at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa’s Earle Ernst Theatre.  Choreographed the movement sequences and constructed the masks used for the Mo’o roles.

Program Description: Hawaiian folklore speaks of the mo’o wahine as a seductive creature that can devour the unwary male… A married man is pulled into a dangerous dream, or is it just a dream?


Kyōgen (Traditional Japanese Comedy Theatre)

Kaki-Yamabushi, “Mountain Priest and the Persimmons”, Wellesley College Performance (Fall 2010 & 2011)

Was selected to perform with professional actor Katsumi Yanagimoto a kyōgen skit on-stage to an audience of approximately 20-25 people entirely in Japanese for 2 years in a row.


Wellesley College Work

“Samurai Act”, Yuki Matsuri Stage Performance (Spring 2010 & 2011)

Led dramatic historical re-enactment stage performances for Wellesley College Japan Club’s Yuki Matsuri annual cultural show.  Was responsible for the music, choreography, and overall staging of the piece.


Nihon Buyo (Japanese Classical Dance)

Pau Hana Concert (December 2014)

Performed learned piece as part of the Japanese Dance class at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa.

Asunaro Conference (November 2013)

Demonstrated a piece and led a workshop in nihon buyo for foreigner English teachers at a conference in Asunaro (Shizuoka Prefecture).

Tokyo Student Exhibition (March 2013 & 2014)

Performed most recently learned nihon buyo pieces as part of an annual student exhibition in Tokyo.

Yuki Matsuri (Spring 2011 & 2012)

Led nihon buyo act for Wellesley College Japan Club’s Yuki Matsuri annual cultural show and taught members of act the complete dance to perform together for 2 consecutive years.

Slater International Cultural Show (Fall 2010 & 2011)

Gave solo nihon buyo performances for Slater International’s annual cultural show at Wellesley College.
