I watched the serial TV drama series Higanjima during my stint in Japan 3 years ago, so I was pretty surprised to see that a continuation film is set for release October 15, complete with Shiraishi Shunya, Suzuki Ryohei, and others reprising their roles (along with some new faces).
As is indicated by the trailer, this film Higanjima Deluxe (known in English as Higanjima: Vampire Island) will feature more vampire fight scenes as well as the giant and bizarre monsters known as “oni” from the original horror manga series by Matsumoto Koji. Furthermore, in this film Shiraishi Shunya’s role as Akira will differ from the drama series in that rather than coming to the island to save his older brother Atsushi (Suzuki Ryohei), Akira returns to slay him instead while fighting alongside the resistance force against the monsters that have overrun the island.
As implied by the film poster’s tagline: “Last Boss is Big Brother.”
Cast features:
- Shiraishi Shunya (白石隼也) as Miyamoto Akira
- Suzuki Ryohei (鈴木亮平) as Miyamoto Atsushi
