Today I learned how to make a seasonal mochi, sakuramochi. We made two styles, Kanto and Kansai. Each time I learn how to make one of these, I’m surprised at how easy they are.

Jennifer M. Yoo is a specialist in premodern Japanese Studies. Although she primarily resides in Massachusetts, she has at one time or other called places ranging from Japan to Hawai’i her home.

She received her PhD in Asian Theatre (Japan Focus) from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa.
